5 Minutes with... Event Manager & Prop Shop Coordinator Megan

This week we have had the pleasure of catching up with Event Manager and Prop Shop Coordinator Megan. Organisational pro and fitness fanatic Megan joined the team in early 2019 and quickly became a vital member. A keen follower of fashion Megan has a brilliant eye for design and loves to help couples curate their perfect day.

Event Manager and Prop Shop Coordinator Megan.

Hi Megan, thank you so much for catching up with us, tell us a little bit more about your role at Hall & Co. Event Design?

I started off working part time as a member of the front of house team, and I absolutely loved being a part of couples' wedding days! I quickly became a full time member of the Events Team and shadowed several other Event Managers, so I could get more of an insight into behind the scenes and which again I could not have enjoyed more! After working alongside Elizabeth, Millie & Kerry, I was able to hold my own event, a Christmas party at the Granary Estates, which was very different to a wedding but so much fun! My role continued to grow when I was made responsible for the Prop Shop, something which I adore and which perfectly suits my love for organisation!

What does a normal day look like for you?

On an average office day, I will check the bookings on the website for prop hire and ensure that all clients have received a confirmation and answer any enquiries regarding this. Plus, I am always looking for new ways to improve our website. I will spend time checking in on my current clients, ensuring they have everything ready for their big day and to see if I can support them with anything. If I am not doing client admin then you will find me working on marketing for the Prop Shop, planning content for Instagram, or creating new giveaways! If I am not at the office or out at an event, I will be at the unit helping with painting, cleaning, and general upkeep of our props. Our team are always willing to help each other where possible and love getting stuck into the practical side of things!

Tell us all about how you have helped grow and change the prop shop?

Since I started the role of Prop Shop Coordinator, I have fine-tuned all of the processes and systems, looking at how the props are delivered, booked out, and making sure they are maintained to the highest standard. I love organising things so I had so much fun with this! I have created a new website for the Prop Shop, so couples can easily see all of our stock, build their dream lounge area, and take inspiration from all of our look books!

What is your favourite prop?

It is hard to choose, as I love them all, but if I had to choose one thing it would be our moon gate. It is so versatile and always creates a wow factor, especially with our pink wooden backdrops – which are also up there with my top favourites!

What advice would you give a couple looking to style their own day?

The most important advice I would give is to style your day to reflect you both as a couple! Personal touches are so important and will stick in your guests' minds. Think about your space and what will work well, and pick a few large items to make a big impact and maximise your budget.

What top tips would you give for a couple choosing a lounge area?

There are so many things to think about when choosing a lounge area but here are a few of my top tips!

  • Select your colour palette first so you can choose props and accessories with this in mind.

  • Consider your guests and who will be using the lounge area. For example, elderly guests may need additional comfy seating but not too many low-level seats as they may struggle with these.

  • Think about the space you would like your lounge area to be placed in and what will work best in your venue.

  • A coffee or side table is always good to hire for guests to rest their drinks, or it can be used as a table for games.

Design and describe your own dream wedding day.

I would want something fun and unique to me. My dream wedding would probably be a spontaneous elopement.

Define the style of your dream day in 3 words.

Unique, relaxed, and natural.

What is your favourite part of a wedding day?

My favourite moment is when the bride walks down the aisle, it gives me goosebumps every time.

I also love when a couple is announced into the wedding breakfast as a newlywed couple for the first time. The happiness on everyone’s face is always a moment to remember.

Out of all the weddings you have done, which one stands out in your mind?

It has to be an incredible wedding at Eggington House I coordinated last summer. It was just so unique and special, and each part of the day reflected the couple perfectly! Plus, the venue is beautiful!

What trends do you expect to see in weddings in 2021 and beyond?

I think the importance of family and friends is really going to resonate in 2021. For many couples, this time has shown the significance of being able to spend time with one's family and celebrate occasions with your nearest and dearest.

I am sure sustainability in weddings will carry on being of huge importance to couples, with many becoming more conscious of this when planning their day.
