5 Minutes with... Senior Planner & Stylist Millie

Today we are catching up with Millie. Millie is our Senior Planner and Stylist, and joined the team over 2 years ago. With a passion for design, Millie loves helping couples to style and plan their day from initial concept right through to execution. She can often be found scrolling through Pinterest and creating mood boards for clients, or mocking up a tablescape and experimenting with different textures and tones. Millie also has a real passion for flowers and loves helping couples design florals which compliment and work with the overall style of their day.

In her spare time, Millie loves spending time with her family and cockapoo Otto. Last year she finished renovating her first home, and is in the process of starting her next project!

Tell us a little bit more about yourself and your role at Hall & Co.?

Hi, I’m Millie I am a Senior Planner and Stylist at Hall & Co. Event Design. I joined the Hall & Co. team 2 years ago, previously having worked in events and marketing. I absolutely love my job, and feel so lucky to be able to be so creative and part of such a great team! I love being able to work with couples to plan and design their day, and bring their vision to life. Behind the scenes, I help to manage the marketing for Hall & Co, and love creating content for Instagram and writing blogs. I am also the main contact for the different venues we work with, and love discovering and getting to know different venues.

What does a normal day look like with you?

There really is no such thing as a normal day working in events, and the variety is one of the reasons I love the job so much! If I am working in the office, I might be helping clients either remotely or holding a tasting or meeting in person, or I will be working on a marketing campaign, creating content for the Hall & Co. Instagram account or developing our Pinterest strategy.

If I am an out of the office, I might be working at an event. Depending on what I am doing at the event will dictate how early a start I have, I will then be there for the majority of the event, ensuring everything runs smoothly and to time. I might also be out and about meeting with one of the venues we work with, or at a site visit with one of my couples.

What’s your favourite thing about your job?

I am really lucky to have a job which I enjoy so much, the variety of each day means that nothing ever gets repetitive or boring and I love the opportunity to be so creative. I have always been obsessed with styling and interiors so a job which allows me to create colour schemes and scroll Pinterest for inspiration every day really is the dream.

If I had to choose one favourite thing though, it would probably be helping couples bringing their dream to life, the moment they see everything for the first time and are so excited makes all the planning and hard work in the run up to the event totally worth it!

What's been your favourite event to be a part of?

I have been lucky enough to be part of some amazing events! I am a big fan of a wedding weekend and they always tend to stick in my mind. The whole weekend has such a beautiful narrative and by elongating the celebrations there is the opportunity for so many brilliant and special moments.

One of the corporate events which I loved being a part of was The Financial Times Festival in 2019. We completely styled and created bespoke florals for the members area at the festival, we worked with them from the point of concept right through to the execution of everything on the day and it was amazing to see if all come to life. I loved being able to work collaboratively with the team to design such a beautiful set up.

What’s your favourite part of the wedding day?

I am a really sucker for a love story, and it is pretty much guaranteed I will cry at some point on the day (happy tears of course!), this is normally when the bride walks down the aisle, it’s such an emotional snippet of the day, and there is so much anticipation and excitement in that moment.

I also love being able to show the couple everything set up for the wedding breakfast, a few moments before all the guests come in, it is so nice for them to see everything ready and have a few minutes taking it all in before everyone else sees it.

Describe your own dream wedding day

I often wonder, after working in the wedding industry, what my own wedding day would be like. I love the idea of a wedding weekend, and inviting my closest family and friends to an elongated celebration. My favourite weddings that I have helped to plan are intimate and have a real focus on family with lots of personal moments. I would certainly prioritise the styling and flowers, as I think these have a really big impact on the overall day.

What styling trends do you expect to see in 2021 and beyond?

This year has been such a strange year, and it will be interesting to see the overriding impact of Coronavirus on the wedding and events industry. I think that we are going to see a real swing towards family focused events, and perhaps couples looking and smaller more intimate celebrations.
