How to Keep Your Wedding Planning Momentum After Having to Postpone

Over the past weeks and months we have helped a number of our couples postpone their wedding, and if you are one of those who have had to go through this difficult journey, we are so sorry. We have seen such resilience and strength in all our couples that have had to postpone due to COVID 19. They have taken it in their stride and we cannot wait for all of their weddings to go ahead once it is safe to do so.

However, after having your wedding plans dashed and your dream day postponed you may inevitably have lost some wedding planning momentum and to be honest, we can't blame you! One of the first pieces of advice we would give is to give yourself a break, take your time to get back into the swing of things and to come to terms with the change in your wedding plans. But most importantly, don’t become disheartened or lose focus on your celebration. You will get your special day, and it will be perfect and unforgettable.

The first thing we would advise doing is trying to use your new date as your focus. Once you have confirmed this with your venue and suppliers focus on this new date and see it as something to start to look forward to. Restart those countdowns and begin to shift your focus to the future. For lots of couples the time of year you’re getting married in might have changed, you may have originally planned a spring or summer wedding and may be now working towards a different season. Why not embrace this and use it to rekindle your creative excitement? You can consider additional colours and textures which may suit your new season and work with your existing colour palette and items which you’ve already purchased to adapt your concepts. Once you’re ready you can start to build new Pinterest boards filled with ideas, such as cosy fire pits and s'mores stations that are perfect for a winter wedding. One of the silver linings of postponing is being able to save a little more towards your big day. Why not indulge in something you really wanted for your original date but couldn’t previously justify in your budget? Splash out on something special to help make your new day even more memorable, quite honestly it is the least you deserve!

Unfortunately, by moving your new date you may now longer be able to use some of your chosen suppliers. Although this is obviously a huge disappointment, try to see the positives in searching for a new supplier who perfectly suits you and your day. If you need to find a new supplier, think back, were there any suppliers you previously loved who weren't available for your original date? Why not see if they are available for your new date!

It’s also important not to forget your original wedding date. Make sure to mark the day as a huge celebration! It may not be how you had imagined spending the day but you can still spend it with your partner and celebrate your love for each other. Finally, why not see if any of your suppliers are still trading during these times. Lots of local florists are offering contactless bouquet delivery options, such as Cambridgeshire based Feather and Ferns, and some cake makers, such as local bakers One Part Love and Two Little Cats, are offering cupcake and brownies for delivery.

Not only does this mean you can enjoy an early snippet of your wedding, but you are also helping to support your suppliers, which is so important in these strange times!
