Owning an Events Business: World Bosses Day

To celebrate World Boss’s Day, I decided to explore the thoughts, feelings and experiences of the fabulous duo behind Hall & Co. Event Design and Little Acre Kitchen.

Elizabeth

What is the scariest aspect of starting your own business and in contrast, the most exciting aspect?

"I wasn’t really scared. I’ve always taken each day as it comes. I was excited about the adventure and seeing where this new journey took me as I wasn’t entirely sure myself how it would turn out."

When did you know you wanted to be a wedding planner?

"I didn’t really. I knew I wanted to own my own business and I just fell into this industry."

How do you manage a heavy work load?

"I try to time block by splitting different tasks across both businesses. Recently I’m experimenting with a new tactic of getting up at around 3am to do my own work with my own clients, power napping at 8am and then coming into the office at around 10am so I’m fully focused on helping the rest of the team."

What has been your biggest highlight of the business so far?

"I wouldn’t say there’s one main highlight. Seeing the company grow in the right direction is very rewarding. If I had to choose it would be building the team this summer."

What are your hopes for the company’s future?

"Continue to grow and diversify into different areas. We have some new adventures in the pipeline but not to be revealed yet."

Dom

What is the scariest aspect of starting your own business and in contrast, the most exciting aspect?

I was excited to have something that was mine, and working for myself, but I always had worries about this new venture failing. I didn’t want the hard work to be for nothing.

Have you always been a chef? When did you know this was the career for you?

I’ve always been a chef and have known I wanted to be for as long as I can remember. Many of family members were chefs which helped me learn a lot about this career.

What was the inspiration behind Little Acre Kitchen?

We went for a trip to New York and I got the inspiration from restaurants over there. Also, many restaurants in London have inspired us to be unique. For the menu, I get a lot of inspiration from Instagram.

What has been your biggest highlight of the business so far?

Seeing the café do so well. We built up a loyal customer base so quickly and it’s lovely to see them enjoy your creations.

What are your hopes for the company’s future?

I’d love to open a second Little Acre Kitchen. Also, to take the new adventures of Hall and Co’s expansion.
